He couldn't resist. It wasn't as if he didn't have all the time in the world to show him the TARDIS but there was something hard, something unspoken in the corner of his companion's eyes. A strange bit of fragility, boundless energy pushing it down almost. But then perhaps he was just seeing things or projecting onto him. After all, wasn't it really the Doctor after all who was still running from the issue at hand.

He could never leave.

Following Stiles, his lips pressed together as he smothered the smile and pushed his hands into his trouser pockets. Long legs setting the pace, he babbled about the brilliance of biscuits to Stiles as he led him towards the TARDIS. It was only when the treeline thinned out that his ship, his beloved girl, could be seen that the small smothered smile brightened somewhat.

"Well, here she is." The Doctor said, pulling his hand out of his pocket along with the key. Holding the old looking thing in his hand, he pressed it into the lock before pushing the door open slightly. Glancing at Stiles, he watched his face for a moment. "Are you ready?"

COSMIC LOVE by Florence and the Machine
I took the stars from my eyes and then I made a map.
And knew that somehow I could find my way back.
Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too.
So I stayed in the darkness with you.

Steal once.
Pay twice.
Advice to heed.
I won't.
I might.

IT'S TIME by Imagine Dragon
It's time to begin, isn't it?
I get a little bit bigger but then I'll admit
I'm just the same as I was
Now don't you understand
That I'm never changing who I am

MIRROR by Ellie Goulding
I look in the mirror
And I try to understand
And piece it together
Wash the blood from both my hands
I can't see the ending
There are people who know my every secret
I'm tired of pretending
You're in my heart

Will you still love me
When I'm no longer young and beautiful?
Will you still love me
When I got nothing but my aching soul?
I know you will, I know you will
I know that you will
Will you still love me when I'm no longer beautiful?

SEVEN DEVILS by Florence and the Machine
Holy water cannot help you now
Thousand armies couldn't keep me out
I don't want your money
I don't want your crown
See I've come to burn your kingdom down

Outrunning the Critic: Write at least 100 short sentences about your character. The sentences should not connect and should not follow one another in any logical way. The idea of this exercise is to force you to outrun your own thoughts and intelligence and critical mind. Be careful not to be monotonous, using the name of your character or a pronoun to start each sentence. A better exercise would be to write 200 or 500 sentences about this character, but 100 sentences is still enough of a stretch to make this useful.

You can write your sentences in a list, or a couple of long paragraphs. Clear your mind and keep this stream-of-consciousness. Really push yourself and your creativity. I bet you'll discover all kinds of things about your pup that they never told you before.

Yoghurt, he likes Yoghurt or at least he thinks. Smooth, creamy... skin! She's sort of flawless in his head, not a wrinkle or a scar just frozen in time. The perfect memory; a perfect moment on a perfect day, he wonders sometimes if he ever remembers the bad moments. No, he'll keep running until he can no longer. Stone cold hands reaching out for her- Pond, Pond, Pond. She's gone, he's alone again but that's okay, isn't it? No, he definitely does not like Yoghurt; disgusting, hideous stuff. Yuck! The eternal question, the one on the tip of your tongue- who am I?

Doctor Who? Sometimes he remembers his childhood, or maybe that's a lie as well. All of time and all of space to go to, all of time and space to run to and he keeps coming back to this. He tells things to people, all this noise and they believe him, they believe him and sometimes that's worth the lies. He'll never grow up, not in this regeneration because he knows who he is and he knows who the biggest liar in the universe is (hint: it’s always him.) A temporal nexus established in a rift of con- yes, Amy it's a timey-wimey thing. He was always a mad man, it just took him a while to acquire- borrow, he borrowed it with full intention of returning it someday- the time machine. There’s a life he never thinks about, there are lives he doesn’t like to remember but there is only one that he runs from. There was always the war, the endless war until it ended and then what was left of him? There is a prison, a microsecond away from now and you will never see it and never know it but he knows it is there; it was always there.

I’m the Doctor, the oncoming storm, the bringer of darkness, the last child of Gallifrey and you’re basically just a jukebox, aren’t you?

Well... it’s the repositioning of the moon and the convergence of the- yes, it’s a timey wimey thing exactly.

Hello, I’m the Doctor and I’m apparently naked, well this couldn’t be more awkward if- ah hello Rory!

While I still stand, while there is still breath in this body you will never win because I will never, ever let you destroy them.

I’m the Doctor and I’m- oh, this is the wrong meeting sorry thought you were fellow time travellers but lovely coffee got to go.

It’s a thing for clothes, clothesy thing-if I called everything its proper name then where would be in the fun in that?

Life is an impossible dream, hurling ourselves through the universe at the speed of light and going nowhere but always dreaming of any time but now.

It’s- it’s nothing, just a memory of something I thought I’d forg- come along Pond!

You’re forgetting Churchy, time isn’t constant and it isn’t our friend but never mind eh, war to win and all that.

It was always her, the first face that this face saw and it always will be.

The sadness lies behind the smile, a reminder that the raggedy man and man of fairy tale is not always quite so kind. He remembers when he wasn’t always defined as being the Doctor, he remembers that and then he forgets. Ten impossible things every day before breakfast and he still, he still can never save them. It is never about want, it never has been about that but it is about need and he knows with every step, every breath that he might not ever be wanted but he is needed. As long as he remembers, as long as he remembers they will never be dead and as long as he remembers he will always be in pain. They expect him to be kind, they expect him to be good but then he thinks about her, she was just a child, and then they fear him. He holds the quiet inside, the silence and the rage until it is just a memory or an explosion of noise and sound because they never expect that, they never expect him to be angry. They give him the room, they give him the power and the breath to talk and oh, they should never let him talk. He made them into this, this is what they have become and he has never regretted anything more. Can you remember how many died that day Doctor- can you remember?

He remembers the suspicion, the bitter taste of arrogance and distrust of those who weren’t him or her. He knew even then when he was younger and oh the hair, he knew then that bow ties were and always would be cool. Sometimes he wasn’t running; sometimes he had a home, a job, friends, a very human life but it never lasted and why would it; he was a Time Lord. This isn’t his past or his future but perhaps it is both; a well known and loved face, someone he can never be now. There is never enough time, no time enough in the whole of the universe, to write down his adventures, his memories not that he would ever, now in this regeneration, want to. Nothing is eternal, stars come and go and lives perish but he will always remember who he was. All is change, nothing is ever the same again and he should keep that close to him but it hurts too much. He forgets, not about him or the life he had but about the choice that he had and what he chose on that terrible day. He could feel it then, time pressing down on him until all he knew was the world and the universe turning around him. He can never be who he was then, he can only be himself and he can only truly be that when he stops running.

We never interfere, we’re observers and we don’t- well, yes except that one time and then on, okay I get the point!

I’m the smartest man in the room and I’m sorry, I am so sorry because I didn’t see it and now you get it.

Keep looking, keep looking and whatever you do just don’t- don’t blink!

You wanted a planet, well it’s sort of a planet- well it’s a planet themed restaurant and yes, we’re still technically- technically on Earth but it does have bendy straws!

Am I a- oh, I was never just a madman with a box.

Who are you River Song; who am I to you?

Wrong and that’s wrong and this is definitely wrong and that is a spoon, who puts a spoon in a museum?

I bet you never thought that anyone would expect old Queen Liz to be a Slitheen in- why isn’t your face coming off and that would be because you’re not a Slitheen.

There were people who were travelling with me but they’re... gone now, just me and all of time and space.

Death is the next great adventure Clara, don’t you worry about me not one bit.
